Brousse-le-Château is a commune in the Aveyron department on the Tarn river, in the Occitania region (Massif Central, France).

It is a member of the “The most beautiful villages of France” association.

Religious buildings

  • Saint-Jacques-le-Majeur church in the village, listed as a historic monument in 1937.
  • Oratory in the cemetery adjoining the village church, also listed in 1937.

  • Church of Saint-Cirice, or Saint-Cyrice, at La Vayssière overlooking Les Raspes, on a promontory in a meander of the Tarn.
  • Église Saint-Martin in the village of Saint-Martin, two kilometers north-northeast of the village of Brousse-le-Château.
  • Another oratory near Saint-Martin church dates back to the 15th century.

Civil buildings

  • Testifying to the region’s prehistoric past, a statue-menhir, that of Crays, has been listed in the commune. It has been listed as a historical monument since 2019.

  • Château de Brousse dates back to the 11th and 16th centuries, and has been listed as a historic monument since 1943. It has been managed by the commune since 2008.

  • The Pont Vieux bridge over the Alrance has been listed as a historic monument since 1937.

  • Remains of a former medieval mill on the Tarn, which has been flooded several times. This building, which had been restored several times, was demolished in 2012 to allow construction of an additional turbine in the adjacent building, housing a hydroelectric power station.
