Lot is a river in the south of the Massif Central (France), tributary on the right bank of the Garonne (together with the Tarn river). It gave its name to the French departments of Lot and Lot-et-Garonne. It is the second longest river entirely in France after the Marne.
It crosses five departments, which are Lozère, Aveyron, Cantal, Lot and Lot-et-Garonne, included in the Occitania region, Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes and Nouvelle-Aquitaine.
The Lot has its source on the southern slope of the Goulet mountain in Lozère at an approximate altitude of 1,300 m, in an area of peat bogs, and flows into the Garonne in the department of Lot-et-Garonne.
Total length is 485 km from its source to its confluence, at Aiguillon.
