Joan Miró park, also popularly known by its old name, Parc de l’Escorxador, is a park located in the Nova Esquerra neighborhood of the Eixample in Barcelona (Catalonia, Spain).
There is the sculpture “Woman and Bird” by the Barcelona artist Joan Miró. The Plaça de Toros de les Arenes separates this park from the Plaça d’Espanya.
From the park you can see both this square and Montjuïc hill. On the other side, and much further away, it is also possible to glimpse Tibidabo above the city buildings. There is also a fire station.
It is a work included in the Inventory of the Architectural Heritage of Catalonia.
There is the Joan Miró library inside ther park. Around it there are several facilities such as the Francesc Català-Roca Photography Space, the Ernest Lluch Institute or the Joan Miró Sports Centre. In the spring, Camí Amic, a community project for education in civic and environmental values in the Esquerra de l’Eixample and Sant Antoni, in agreement with the Eixample District, organizes park revitalization activities. The program is called “Come and move the Joan Miró Park!” and includes free activities with neighborhood associations, family shows, musical snacks, environmental workshops, games and outdoor cinema, among others.
