Castelnau-de-Montmiral

Castelnau-de-Montmiral (in Occitan Castèlnòu de Montmiralh) is a commune located in the northwest of the Tarn department, in the Occitania region (France). Historically and culturally, the town is in Gaillac, a country that owes its notoriety to the quality of its wines.

Exposed to an altered oceanic climate, it is drained by the Vère, the Tescou, the Ruisseau de Rô, the Ruisseau du Rô Oriental and various other small rivers.

The town has a remarkable natural heritage: two Natura 2000 sites (the Grésigne Forest and the Grésigne Forest and surrounding areas), a protected area (the Montoulieu) and four natural areas of ecological and faunal interest.

Castelnau-de-Montmiral is a rural commune that had 1,050 inhabitants as of 2021, after having experienced a population peak of 3,116 inhabitants in 1846. It is part of the Gaillac catchment area.

The village is a member of the association, The Most Beautiful Villages of France.
