The Social Democratic Party (SDP) of Andorra (Pyrenees) submitted to the Parliament of the Principality the bill concerning the reduction of duration of living to obtain citizenship of Andorra.
The bill offers to reduce it from 20 to 10 years. Besides, according to the bill, you must continuously reside in Andorra for at least 5 years. To obtain the civil status for the students is also proposed to reduce the training period from 10 to 5 years.
It is worth noting that this bill SDP has already offered twice – in 2010 and in 2012. The authors are confident that the third attempt will be finally successful. First of all, party members pay attention to the appropriate recommendations of the Council of Europe Convention about necessary reduction of period of residence in the Principality to receive citizen status. In connection with the future integration of Andorra with the European Union this bill is especially important.
The initiative of the party members is also explained by the fact that currently more than 50% of the active population of Andorra are the immigrants, businessmen who have property rights. However, the status of a resident of Andorra doesn’t give the right to participate in political life of the country.
