Ten representatives from the Chinese Ministry of Education, the Consulate General and the Chinese Embassy in Spain, led by Wu Yan, Vice Minister of the Chinese Ministry of Education, visited the Pompeu Fabra University in Catalonia (UPF) Rectorate and Poblenou Campus on the morning of 12 December.
Among the strengths highlighted were the fact that UPF is a research-intensive university, its innovative teaching (undergraduate and graduate courses are taught in English) and its international outlook.
In the academic year 2023-2024, UPF has a total of 340 students from China, spread across undergraduate (118), postgraduate (127) and doctoral (95) programmes. Chinese students make up one-third of all Asian students. UPF aims to increase the percentage of Chinese postgraduate students (which is currently less than 3 %), particularly through co-operation with the China Scholarship Council (CSC).
In the area of research, several academics at the university conducted research and published research papers with Chinese researchers (about 300 papers in Scopus and 350 in Web of Science). These figures are an example of UPF’s co-operation with higher education institutions in China since 2009, an area in which mobility projects are highlighted (Erasmus KA107).
