Parque de Enrique Tierno Galván (Madrid)

Enrique Tierno Galván Park is an urban park located in the southeast of the city of Madrid, Community of Madrid, Spain.

With 45 hectares, it is one of the largest in the city. Its construction began in 1985, during the mandate of the mayor who gives it its name and to whom it would be dedicated after his death, it was inaugurated on May 10, 1987. In addition to a square dedicated to him, with a statue, it also houses the city planetarium, an open-air auditorium and the old IMAX cinema (closed in September 2014 and whose future is uncertain).

The park is located in the Legazpi neighbourhood, within the Madrid district of Arganzuela, between the old Delicias railway station, now the Railway Museum, and the M-30 ring road. The area in which it is located has long been known as the Cerro de la Plata, in contrast to the remains of charcoal from the steam trains that left the nearby stations, Atocha and the aforementioned Delicias. From there you can see Villa de Vallecas and the commercial area of Méndez Álvaro.

How to get to?

The park is accessible on foot from the city centre in forty-five minutes to one hour.

By Madrid Metro, it can be reached via two stations on line 6: Méndez Álvaro and Arganzuela-Planetario.

By Cercanías Madrid, via the Madrid Cercanías Renfe, it can be reached on foot from Delicias station via the corridor that connects it to the park, or from Méndez Álvaro station.

By road, it is accessible from the M-30 and from the A4 by entering through the tunnel at the height of the M-30.

Long-distance transport has two important stations nearby: the Estación Sur de Autobuses and the Atocha train station.
