Description
La Neomudéjar as a centre for avant-garde art and artistic experimentation opened its doors in July 2013, with the aim of approaching and incorporating new creative proposals, where technological innovation has been considered fundamental for the creation of avant-garde movements and artistic residency, providing a shared space for experimentation and emerging art.
The Neomudéjar Centre has restored a space that is representative of the industrial architecture of 19th-century Madrid – a Neo-Mudejar style building that housed the former workshops of the Madrid-Zaragoza and Alicante railway (belonging to the MZA), where railway workers were trained.
One of its buildings also housed the engine that provided power to the Estación del Mediodía (Atocha station), which has been preserved intact, as well as a large amount of railway material.
La Neomudéjar welcomes several groups under its umbrella of residency, Associated Video Artists, Parkour Collectives, Urban Art, Experimental Music, Travesías de Luz, or the Orquesta en el Tejado. The artists are provided with a space and materials to carry out their project. It has three residency models:
In the La Neomudéjar Museum itself, to develop a specific project that results in the exhibition in the Museum itself.
Own permanent workshop in the new space in Madrid, Zapadores Ciudad del Arte in the Fuencarral neighborhood.
Temporary artistic residencies with housing in the rural environment of Cañada del Hoyo (Cuenca), this is the new project of La Neomudéjar in the rural environment.
Artists such as Laguna, Armenteros, Ara Malikian, Alberto Carvaja, Umbra and Emma Ferguson have participated in the residency.
