ZiL-41045. Andropov’s personal car

ZiL-41045. Andropov’s personal car

In 1982, the Soviet General Secretary Leonid Ilyich Brezhnev died and was replaced as head of state by Yuri Vladimirovich Andropov.

According to the established tradition, the new General Secretary of the Central Committee of the CPSU was supposed to have a new car, but due to the fact that the transition to a new model range (ZIL-4104) was carried out in 1978, it was decided at ZIL to simply update the appearance of the car, taking into account the latest trends in automotive design.

They removed the chrome lining from the wheel arches, moved the molding along the threshold higher – to the doors, changed the front part of the body – the radiator grille and headlights, installed slightly different taillights, a number of other external elements, but in general the car itself remained the same.

Neither the chassis, nor the interior, nor the bodywork has changed. The updated limousine, designated ZIL-41045, was produced from 1983 to 1985, until the next change of the General Secretary of the CPSU Central Committee, after which it was replaced by another upgraded version, which received the ZIL-41047 index.
