The monastery of Santa María de Melón was founded in 1158

The monastery of Santa María de Melón is an old monastery and church of Catholic worship, located in the municipality of Melón (Ourense province, Galicia, Spain).

This temple belonged to the Cistercian Order, being founded in 1158, being inhabited until 1835, when the confiscation of Mendizábal occurred.

Currently, it is considered as BIC (Asset of Cultural Interest).

It was declared a Historic-Artistic Monument belonging to the National Artistic Treasure by decree of June 3, 1931.
