Helikon-Opera

The Moscow Musical Theater “Helikon-Opera” is a musical theater in Moscow, founded in 1990.

The troupe of “Helikon” exceeds 500 people. It includes an ensemble of soloists, many Honored Artists of Russia, laureates of international competitions and awards, and a symphony orchestra and choir. Almost all artists in the choir have diplomas of conductors or choirmasters.

During the season, the theater gives more than 300 performances. The theater’s repertoire includes over 75 productions.

Together with the Department of Culture of the City of Moscow, the Helikon-Opera Theater holds the Nano-Opera International Competition for Young Opera Directors once every two years.

The opera is in the estate of the Shakhovsky-Glebov-Streshnevs, built in the second half of the 19th century. An object of cultural heritage of regional significance.

In the late 2000s, the estate was reconstructed to meet the needs of the Helikon-Opera theater. The project was developed at the Mosproekt-4 design institute under the guidance of architect Andrey Bokov. It consisted of creating two new auditoriums for 200 and 500 seats. For this purpose, the former manor courtyard was blocked, a larger auditorium was equipped – a new theater stage, and the “red porch” turned into a VIP box of this hall.
