GAZ-24-95. Brezhnev’s off-road hunting car

GAZ-24-95. Brezhnev’s (General Secretary of the Communist Party of the Soviet Union between 1964 and 1982) off-road hunting car

GAZ-24-95 is a Soviet medium-class all-wheel drive vehicle manufactured at the Gorky Automobile Plant in 1974. In total, 5 copies were produced, among them – Brezhnev’s car. Cars were tested off-road. The base model for the GAZ-24-95 was the rear-wheel drive GAZ-24. The UAZ-469 was a competitor in terms of technical characteristics and cross-country ability.

The GAZ-24-95 car was produced by order of the Gorky Regional Committee of the CPSU. The head of the development of the car was Boris Akimovich Dekhtyar. Leonid Brezhnev went out by car on this hunt. When adapting the transmission, the inclined angles of the universal joints that drive the drive axles increased. Since the GAZ-24-95 car was positioned as comfortable, the UAZ transmission was abandoned taking into account noise and vibration.

As a result, the transmission of our own production was retained, in which an abrasive was added to reduce noise from the gears. The differentials are equipped with cam mechanisms of increased friction. Instead of springs, there are springs in front. The wheels are taken from the GAZ-21. They are fitted with tires from Chaika.
