Château de Lugagnac stands less than 2km northwest of the village of Rivière and more than 600m above sea level. It is located opposite the Pic de Suège, near the Millau-Sévérac railway line, which it dominates (Aveyron, Massif CentralOccitania, France).

It is an ancient, well-preserved stately manor house, flanked by massive crenellated towers, but of an elegant form.

Formerly Lugagnac was written “Luganhac”.

The name of Lugagnac is already mentioned in the year 1146, where Bishop Pierre, who had had many disagreements with the Count of Rodez, gave the monastery of Brantome five churches including those of Sévérac and Notre-Dame de Lugagnac.
