33rd annual music festival Narciso Yepes will take place in October in the National auditorium of Andorra, Ordino

narciso-yepes-2015In the National auditorium of Andorra ( l Auditori Nacional D’Andorra) in Ordino, Andorra (Pyrenees), from 9 to 23 October 2015 will take place the 33rd annual music festival Narciso Yepes, named after a classical guitarist Narciso Yepes, Spain, (14.11.19273.05.1997).

An outstanding musician is famous all over the world by the fact that in 1964 he presented to the public ten string guitar, which he created together with the famous guitar maker Jose Ramirez. During his life he recorded over 50 albums, played concerts on five continents, has been repeatedly awarded the title of laureate of the most prestigious music awards and has received numerous awards.

Before 1997, the annual event in Ordino has been known under the name “International festival of classic music in Ordino“. The first music festival was held in 1983 and for eight years, until the opening of the National auditorium of Andorra, was held in the Church of Sant Corneli and Sant Cebrià (Ordino). Many famous musicians took part in the festival during these years.  Among them: African-American singer Barbara Hendricks, soprano, a Flamenco dancer for 20 years (1968-1988), Spanish Opera singers Josep Carreras and Jaume Aragall, American violinist and conductor Yehudi Menuhin, a pianist from the Dominican Republic, winner of the award “Grammy” for best album of Latin jazz Michel Camilo, a famous actor, later Director of the National ballet of Spain, Antonio Canales, Spanish Opera singer, winner of the award “Grammy” for best classical vocal solo Montserrat Caballé, Spanish pianist, recognized as UNESCO “artist for peace 2000and conductor Joaquín Achúcarro, Catalan pianist Alicia de Larrocha, the winner of two Grammy awards for best instrumental performance solo performer with the orchestra and no orchestra, Austrian Opera and chamber singer Gundula Janowitz, multi musician from Galicia Carlos Núñez, who plays the Galician bagpipes and Galician and Irish flutes, Cuban pianist, composer and arranger, winner of the Grammy award for best Latin jazz album Chucho Valdés, Spanish singer, performer of Flamenco and Bolero Mayte Martín, French pianists, Labèque sisters, Spanish singer, one of the brightest performers of flamenco, jazz, tango and Rumba Concha Buika, Catalan singer Sílvia Pérez Cruz and others.

Artistic Director of the festival is Andorran violinist Claret Gerard.

This year spectators will see the Catalan rock group Els Pets, pianists Joaquín Achucarro and son of Narciso Yepes – Ignacio Yepes accompanied by the Orquestra National Classica d’Andorra (ONCA), the Israeli NOA group, the group “Els interpretes de casa(string Quartet, piano and clarinet) and music-dance show for children “La rateta que escombrava léscaleta“.
