Sainte-Agnès (Occitan: Sant Anha) is a commune in the Alpes-Maritimes department in the Provence-Alpes-Côte d’Azur region in Southeastern France.

The village is a member of the association – “The most beautiful villages of France“.

The narrow road to the village provides views of Roquebrune-Cap-Martin, Menton and on to Italy.

Main attractions

  • Sainte-Agnès fort was part of the Maginot line and was built between 1932 and 1936. It occupies an area of 2,000 m2 and could accommodate 300 to 400 troops for three months in complete self-sufficiency. The fort concentrated a very powerful, well-preserved artillery.
  • The ruins of the castle: located on the rocky peak above the village, the castle was razed on the orders of Louis XIV, built on the site of a Roman castrum.

  • The medieval garden, created by the association of “Painters of the Sun”. Superb panorama of the Mediterranean Sea.
  • The Notre-Dame-des-Neiges church, with glazed scale tiles.
  • The Saint-Michel Cabrolles church.
  • The Saint-Charles chapel (Museum): the culture and tradition space presents numerous paintings by the “Painters of the Sun”, a collection of old tools and utensils and another of ceramics found during archaeological excavations.
