The Setra S 517 HD bus was first introduced in 2012. The premiere took place in Kortrijk at the Busworld 2013 motor show. The bus also received the Coach of the Year 2014 award.
The body of the bus is stronger than the 400th generation models. The front of the bus is protected from frontal impact by the FCG (Front Collision Guard) system. The ABA 3 system warns the driver of a dangerous distance and provides full braking to avoid an accident.
In Russia, the bus was presented at the World of Buses 2016 festival, where Daimler KAMAZ RUS presented the Setra S516 HDH bus to service sports teams. In December 2016, the Setra S 517 HD bus was presented in Russia, with which the journalists of the Avtopark magazine met after the first work on the line.
