Grimaud is a commune located in the Var department, in the Provence-Alpes-Côte d’Azur region (France, Azure coast).

The seaside town of Port Grimaud lies within the commune, at the head of the gulf. The Gulf of Saint Tropez was known as the Gulf of Grimaud until the end of the 19th century.

Tourism and main attractions

Religious heritage:

  • The Church of Saint-François d’Assise is an ecumenical church where Catholic and Protestant worship are celebrated.
  • The Notre-Dame-de-la-Queste chapel. 11th century chapel, enlarged in the mid-17th century.

  • The Chapel of the Penitents at the west entrance to the village was built at the end of the 15th century. Historical monument logo Listed MH (1976).
  • The Saint-Michel church, Logo historic monument Classified MH (1989) and its organ.

  • The Saint-Roch chapel, at the eastern entrance to the village.
  • The chapel of the immaculate heart of Beauvallon.

Other sites:

  • Grimaud Castle: Originally (early 11th century), the castle included a simple tower. In the 13th and 14th centuries, another tower or keep was built. In the 15th century the building to the west was designed. In the 17th century, the castle was enlarged one last time with its round towers.

  • The former hotel Le Beauvallon.
  • The Saint-Roch windmill.

  • The fountain of the new square.
  • The Fairy Bridge.

  • The village of Grimaud is classified as a remarkable site. It contains numerous architectural remains from the 15th and 16th centuries, the golden age of the village.
