Cathédrale Notre-Dame de Saint-Bertrand-de-Comminges

The Notre-Dame Cathedral of Saint-Bertrand-de-Comminges, also known as the Cathedral of Saint Mary, is a Catholic cathedral.

The cathedral was listed as a historical monument in 1840. It has also been a UNESCO World Heritage Site as part of the Route of Santiago de Compostela in France since 1998.

At an altitude of 515 meters, Saint-Bertrand-de-Comminges is in a position to see the Pic de Cagire, the Pic du Gar, Mont Sacon, and overlook the Garonne basin. More generally, the city commands access to Spain, Toulouse, and Tarbes, served by a road network derived from ancient Roman roads.

The cathedral was built around 1100. The foundations of the walls of the first four bays and the facade of the nave remain from the cathedral built by Bertrand de l’Isle. The cloister was rebuilt in the 12th and 13th centuries in a more lavish style.
