Cine Ideal (Madrid)

Cine Ideal, officially Yelmo Cines Ideal, is located in Madrid, Community of Madrid, Spain, on Doctor Cortezo Street, near the Plaza de Jacinto Benavente. It belongs to the company Yelmo Films, S.L., which has been operating under the commercial name Yelmo Cines since 1999. It has a capacity for 3,000 people. A few years ago, the screens and sound system were remodeled.

History

It is one of the oldest permanent cinemas in the Spanish capital. It was opened on May 10, 1916. However, its current appearance barely resembles the original. It was built on land belonging to the Ministry of Public Works, which until the Mendizábal confiscation had been occupied by the convent of the Calzados Trinitarians. The premises, designed by the architect José Espelius Anduaga, had a capacity for almost three thousand spectators. The neighbouring Calderón Theatre, which would open a year later, had not yet opened, nor did the Fígaro Theatre, which opened in 1931.
