BULTACO Discovery electric. Brinco speed wheel

The Bultaco Brinco is an electric two-wheeled vehicle that is halfway between a motorcycle and a bicycle (moto-bike). It began to be marketed in 2015 for 4,800 euros.

In 1983 the Bultó family closed the Bultaco factory. In 2014, 31 years after its disappearance, a group of engineers and investors decided to recover the brand as Bultaco Motors.

The company Bultaco Motors began its journey with an investment of 20 million euros. Received a €1.5 million grant from the EU for the Adaptcontrol electronic control unit.

Production began in July 2015 at the manufacturing plant that Bultaco Motors has in Montmeló (Barcelona). It has a capacity for 50,000 vehicles a year. It began by manufacturing around 200 units a month and planned to sell around 2,000 units in 2015. The planned production for 2016 was 5,000 motorcycles.

60% of the components come from suppliers located less than 100 kilometers from Montmeló due to the existence of a cluster of motorcycle components in Barcelona.

In 2015 the company had 60 workers and planned to increase the workforce to 100 people in 2020.

It is a light electric vehicle that weighs 39 kg with the battery included. The maximum speed without pedaling assistance is 60 km/h.3 It has a grip throttle to manage the electrical power. It has pedals that allow it to be driven independently.

The electric motor is integrated into the rear wheel. It is a brushless three-phase permanent magnet motor. The maximum power is 2 kW (3 CV) with a maximum torque of 60 N·m. The maximum torque is available from 0 rpm.

Cooling is passive by air. It has integrated speed and temperature sensors.

Three-phase DC/AC controller with a maximum power of 50V-55A. It has 3 selectable driving modes:

Sport: 2 kW
tour: 1.5 kW
Eco: 0.9 kW

Regenerative deceleration recovers energy and injects it into the battery. It has an integrated self-diagnosis system.

The removable Li-Ion battery has a capacity of 1.3 kWh and weighs 8 kg. It uses the same battery cell as Tesla cars. The battery cell is manufactured by Samsung and Panasonic.

Integrated battery management is performed by the Power Cell Li-Ion Matrix.

Autonomy

The autonomy depends on the driving mode.

Sport: up to 50 km.
Tour: up to 75 km.
Eco: up to 100 km at an average speed of 25 km/h
