Capbreton is a French commune located in the Landes department, in the Nouvelle-Aquitaine region.
An active marina and fishing port, Capbreton is a renowned seaside resort located just across from Soorts-Hossegor. It is a maritime town and part of the Côte d’Argent on the Atlantic Ocean.
Tourism
- The Pier, symbol of the town of Capbreton.
- The fishing and marina.
- The Saint-Nicolas de Capbreton Church, with a bell tower flanked by a 33-meter round tower. It was actually a maritime traffic observation tower.
- The Maison du Rey, where Henry IV slept during his visit to Capbreton in 1583.
- A group of approximately 10 Atlantic Wall blockhouses located on the beaches south of the town and partially dismantled by the Germans before their retreat.
- The casino, rebuilt in 2009 on the new terraces.
- The Saint-Jean de Bouret Church is part of a Templar house built in the 12th century and now destroyed. However, the Saint-Nicolas de Capbreton Church still has two vestiges: its bell and its Christ on the cross.
- The “two town halls”: Capbreton has a town hall on the square of the same name. However, the town hall is located on the other side of the square. It is the villa built at the end of the 19th century by Clément Soulé.
The town of Capbreton has 8 natural sandy beaches, 7 of which are supervised during the summer:
- Notre-Dame (on the other side of the boat pass),
- L’Estacade,
- La Centrale (not to be confused with Hossegor’s central beach),
- Le Prévent,
- La Savane,
- La Piste,
- Les Océanides,
- La Pointe (unsupervised).
These beaches are supervised from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. in July and August.
The beaches also host official surfing competitions several times a year.
