The Pavón Theatre is a theatre Madrid, Community of Madrid, Spain, located on Calle de Embajadores, in the Centro district. The building, opened in 1925, was designed by the architect Teodoro de Anasagasti y Algán.
History
Commissioned by the businesswoman Francisca Pavón y Marcos, from whom it takes its name, it was erected between 1924 and 1925.
It was one of the first buildings in Madrid built entirely in the art deco style and, in the words of Fernández Muñoz, “it represented the consolidation of the building model previously tested by Anasagasti in the Real Cinema and the Teatro Monumental”.
It was inaugurated in April 1925 —an event attended by the monarchs Alfonso XIII and Victoria Eugenie of Battenberg—7 with the performance of the play Don Quintín el amargao, by the company Ramón Peña. It had a capacity of about 1,700 spectators. Its construction had a cost of 700,000 pesetas.
The theatre reopened its doors in September 2021 with a new project led by theatre entrepreneurs Gonzalo Pérez Pastor and José Maya, the latter being the owner of the building. The new project will focus mainly on musical shows.
In June 2022, it started to be managed by the Luchana Theatre Group with an interesting and entertaining programme, following the thoughts of Voltaire and Brecht.
