The Midouze (Midosa in Gascon) is a river in southwestern France and a right tributary of the Adour. Its entire course lies within the Landes department (Nouvelle-Aquitaine). The hydrographic network of the Midouze tributaries is a Natura 2000 site (SIC/pSIC).
Geography
The Midouze is formed from the confluence of two rivers, the Midou (or Midour) and the Douze, which meet at Mont-de-Marsan. The Midou and the Douze have their sources in the Gers department. The Midouze flows into the Adour at Hourquet, shortly after Tartas, between the two places called Remoulin and Lataste, and between the three communes of Vicq-d’Auribat, Audon, and Bégaar.
The sandy waters of the Douze (to the north) and the darker waters of the Midou (to the south) combine at the confluence to form the Midouze. This navigable river continues its course towards the Adour. The historic center of Mont-de-Marsan is both bounded and protected by these “three rivers.”
The Midouze itself is 43 km long between Mont-de-Marsan and its confluence with the Adour.
