Moscow Domodedovo Airport

Moscow Domodedovo Airport (Russian: Московский аэропорт Домодедово), formally Domodedovo Mikhail Lomonosov International Airport, is an international airport serving Moscow, the capital of Russia. It is the fourth largest airport in terms of passenger traffic after Sheremetyevo (Moscow), Pulkovo (Saint Petersburg) and Vnukovo (Moscow). It is located on the border of the Domodedovo urban district and the Ramensky district of the Moscow region.

Serves regular flights within Russia, as well as to Europe, Asia and Africa, and is also the Moscow hub of the global Oneworld alliance and, in particular, the second largest passenger traffic airline in Russia – S7 Airlines. It is among the twenty busiest airports in Europe.

The airport complex includes an airfield formed by two independent parallel runways (RWY-1 and RWY-2). They are located two kilometers from each other, which makes Domodedovo the only airport in the Moscow aviation hub capable of simultaneously performing takeoff and landing operations on its runways. Both runways are certified according to ICAO CAT IIIA category. The reconstruction of RWY-1 made Domodedovo the first Russian airport capable of receiving the Airbus A380 passenger airliner.

The Domodedovo airport complex was created according to the UNDER ONE ROOF concept. A single terminal improves transfer capabilities, passenger comfort and energy efficiency.

Over 61 years, Domodedovo Airport has served more than 777 million people. During this time, over 7 million takeoff and landing operations were performed here.

During the Soviet era, the airport was used exclusively for domestic flights, and in 1992 it received international status. S7 Airlines and Ural Airlines are the largest airlines using Domodedovo as a hub airport.

Transport

Railway

The western wing of the airport terminal is adjacent to the covered platform Domodedovo Airport, the final stop on the line from Domodedovo station of the Paveletsky direction. Since 2002, in addition to Russian Railways electric trains, Aeroexpress electric trains have been used on the line, which previously ran without stops, and since 2019 — with a stop at the Verkhnie Kotly platform.

From November 2017 to November 2019, double-decker ESh2 trains manufactured by the Swiss company Stadler operated on the Aeroexpress line to Domodedovo Airport.

Roads

The airport is connected to Moscow by the federal highway A105, near the Moscow Ring Road adjoining the old Kashirskoye Highway. Currently, a transport interchange has been built near the Kosmos platform, which has made it possible to completely eliminate traffic jams entering and leaving the airport and its technical zones.
