The Teatro Apolo is the entertainment venue located in the Plaza de Tirso de Molina in Madrid, Community of Madrid, Spain.
The initial name of Teatro Progreso is due to the name that the square received at that time, until 1939, Plaza del Progreso.
History
The entrepreneurs of the Teatro Apolo, which was located on Calle de Alcalá until its closure in 1929, decided to build a new one in the Plaza del Progreso (currently Plaza de Tirso de Molina). On December 10, 1932, the Teatro Progreso opened with the zarzuela La verbena de la Paloma.
As Nuevo Apolo it opened on December 17, 1987, representing an Anthology of Zarzuela. The promoter of this stage was the Granada director José Tamayo.
In August 2020, the company SOM Produce took over the ownership, management and programming, subjecting the theatre to a major renovation that lasted for more than a year and a half. In this new phase, which opened in October 2021 with the show Nada es imposible by the illusionist Antonio Díaz, the venue was simply renamed Teatro Apolo.
