The Subaru Impreza WRX STI is a high performance model of the Subaru Impreza compact car line, manufactured by Japanese automaker Subaru. GDB-F replaced the first generation in 2000.

II generation (GDB-F)

In 2000, the Subaru Impreza underwent a complete overhaul. The chassis was reinforced, which increased its rigidity. The WRX STi received new 17-inch wheels with a width of 7.5 inches instead of the previous 16-inch ones. The five-speed manual transmission was replaced with a six-speed gearbox developed by STi. The engine remained the same — an EJ207 with a semi-closed cylinder block, but now with a variable valve timing system. This improved torque at low revs.

The interior was updated with the addition of the STi logo on the dashboard. The STi tachometer received a red gear shift indicator. The STi and Type RA STi models were equipped with 4-piston front and 2-piston rear Brembo brakes. The base version of the Type RA retained Subaru brakes. Externally, the STi gained enlarged air intakes and fog light covers with the STi logo.

The DCCD system has been upgraded to work with ABS. When ABS is engaged, DCCD switches to non-locking mode. The name no longer includes the letter ‘B’ or “F” that was previously used to indicate the type of chassis (GDB or GDF for Japanese and foreign car enthusiasts, respectively; ‘A’ for the regular WRX).
