Renfe 230: Spanish steam locomotive

North British RENFE Serie 230—2059-2064

RENFE 230—2059-2064 is a series of five steam locomotives of the Spanish National Railway Network (RENFE) and the Beira Alta Railway Company (Portugal). These locomotives were distinguished by the elegant design and harmony typical of British trains.

After operating in Portugal, these locomotives were acquired by the Medina—Zamora and Ourense—Vigo Railway Company (MZOV). They were used to haul express and mail trains from Vigo, forming the 60-65 series. In 1928, MZOV was integrated into the structure of the National Company of Western Railways of Spain, where the 760-765 series was formed. In 1941, already in RENFE, these locomotives were renumbered in the 230—2059-2064 series.

Description

Its boiler had a capacity of 12 kg/cm² and the diameter of the driving wheel was 1562 mm, which allowed it to develop a power of 810 horsepower. The three-axle tender held about five tons of coal and 12 cubic meters of water.
