MMVZ-3.112 «Minsk»

Минск ММВЗ-3.112

«Minsk» MMVZ-3.112 is a light road two-seater motorcycle, which was produced at the Minsk Motorcycle and Bicycle Plant (Minskiy mototsikletno-velosipedniy zavod). It was mass-produced from 1982 to 1995 (along with modifications). The predecessor of this model was MMVZ-3.115, and the successor was MMVZ-3.113.

The marking means:

  • MMVZ – manufacturer;
  • 3 – motorcycle class (up to 125 cm³);
  • 1 – motorcycle type (road);
  • 12 – factory model number.

The motorcycle model MMVZ-3.112 is an evolution of the previous model “Minsk” – MMVZ-3.115. Despite the fact that the announcement of the MMVZ-3.112 model took place in 1980, serial production began only in 1982. The MMVZ-3.115 was produced until 1982.

The key differences of the new model were:

  • A more comfortable, wider and longer saddle, which folds back on hinges to the right and can be removed from the frame. The back of the saddle is rounded, unlike the 3.115 model, where it is rectangular.
  • Brake drums on both wheels increased to 150 mm.
  • Damping elements in the driven sprocket unit.
  • Swing fork on silent blocks.
  • A new bracket on the frame, making it easier to place the motorcycle on the central stand.

On the early MMVZ-3.112 models, produced in 1982-1983, the front fender and front fork covers were from the 3.115 model. The upper fender had black crossbars, and reflective reflectors were installed on the fork covers. During 1983, the front fender was updated (it became like the 3.112.1 model), the black crossbars disappeared, and the reflectors moved to the front fender brackets.

The rear brake support shield transmits the reactive force to the frame not through the stops, but through the reactive thrust, which is attached to the swingarm. The brake pedal is mounted on a separate bracket, and not on the footrest tube.

The diameter of the wheel hubs and the spokes themselves has also been increased. The spokes have become shorter, which generally made the wheel more rigid. The comfort of the motorcycle has been slightly improved.

The main technical difference between the basic configuration of the MMVZ-3.112 and all subsequent modifications (3.112.1; 3.112.11; 3.112.12, etc.) is the presence of a six-volt ignition (on-board network) and “old-style” lighting devices (FP-246 (A) taillight and a smaller diameter headlight).

Engine

The engine is a single-cylinder unit with air cooling and a two-channel return purge. Its head is made of aluminum alloy, and the cylinder liner, made of cast iron, is pressed into aluminum finning.

Thanks to the developed finning system of the cylinder and head, the engine is effectively cooled under any operating conditions, which ensures its stable operation. It operates on low-octane gasoline A-76, which can be mixed with almost any motor oil.

In 1982, the MMVZ-3.112 model was released, equipped with an engine with the index MMZ-105. This engine developed a power of 12 HP at 6,300 rpm. In 1988, a new modification of the engine appeared, designed for the MMVZ-3.112.11 motorcycle, which had already been produced for two years. This derated version had a power of up to 10 HP.

Transmission

The gearbox has four stages, and switching is carried out using a foot mechanism. The clutch is a multi-plate device located in an oil bath.

The rear wheel is driven by a chain, which is protected from damage due to the presence of stamped casings and rubber covers. Between each gear there is a neutral position, ensuring smooth switching.

Chassis

The frame is made of pipes. The front telescopic fork is equipped with hydraulic shock absorbers, and the rear pendulum suspension also has hydraulic shock absorbers.

Electrical equipment

The MMVZ-3.112 model had an electronic contactless ignition system, the headlights and taillight were identical to the previous ones, and the electrical equipment was 6-volt (G427 generator). Since 1985, the 3.112.1 model was equipped with 12-volt electrical equipment (43.3701 generator), lighting devices that meet European standards, which distinguished it from the MMVZ-3.112 model. In 1995, a new 14-volt alternating current generator with a capacity of 90 watts was announced.

Modifications of MMVZ-3.112

  • MMVZ-3.112.1 (1985-1987) — an improved model of MMVZ-3.112 with 4 gears, an engine with a power of 12 hp at 6,950 rpm and a maximum torque of 1.2 kgf•m at 6,800 rpm. The motorcycle received new 12-volt equipment and lighting devices, a trim without metal emblems and the inscriptions “Minsk” on the gas tank and glove compartments. The instrument panel became plastic, with two glasses and signal lamps.
  • MMVZ-3.112.11 (1986-1991) – a “rural” version of the MMVZ-3.112.1 motorcycle. In 1988, a derated 10 hp engine was installed on the 3.112.11 to improve cross-country ability on dirt roads and off-road. The frame began to be marked with a number, unlike the road version, where the product number was applied to a plate on the steering column. To improve cross-country ability, the main gear was increased, the front wheel mudguard was raised, the muffler shape was changed, the central stand was replaced with a side stop, the steering wheel was reinforced with a crossbar, the front fender mounts were moved to the lower crossmember, the muffler was made collapsible. It was exported to Bulgaria, Hungary, Vietnam, Cuba, Laos, Mongolia, Romania, Serbia, Syria and Czechoslovakia.
  • MMVZ-3.112.12 (since 1991) – this motorcycle received minor external changes. The dashboard was made in the form of a plastic “brick”.
  • MMVZ-3.112.13
  • MMVZ-3.112.14 “Pioneer”
  • MMVZ-3.112.15 “Sputnik” – a model with a new fork 3.1122 with aluminum sliding tubes.
