The Mini is a compact car that began production in July 2001. It is known as the “New Mini”. All four generations were produced in three-door hatchback and two-door convertible versions, and from the third generation onwards, a five-door hatchback was added. After the German automaker BMW acquired the Mini brand, this family of front-wheel-drive, front-engine retro cars became popular. The model range included various variants such as the Mini Cooper, Mini Hatch, Mini Hardtop, Mini One, and Mini John Cooper Works.

IV Generation (J01/F65/66/67)

J01 (2023)

The fourth generation of the electric Mini hatchback was unveiled on September 1, 2023. The model is only available in a three-door version and is sold under the name Mini Cooper, regardless of trim level. Sales in Europe began in 2024. An updated version of the third-generation Mini hatchback with an internal combustion engine will be released alongside the fourth generation in 2024. The J01 Cooper model will be available in two versions: Cooper E and Cooper SE.

The model is developed and manufactured by Spotlight Automotive, a joint venture between BMW Group and Great Wall Motor. Production takes place at a new plant in Zhangjiagang, Jiangsu Province, China. The first production cars rolled off the assembly line on October 14, 2023. The Mini plant in Oxford, England, plans to begin production of the electric J01 by 2026.

The Cooper features a simplified interior design, where the only physical display is a completely round 240 mm (9.45 inch) OLED touchscreen based on the OS9 operating system.
