ЛиАЗ-5251 «Вояж»
LiAZ-5250 “Voyage” is a Russian suburban and interurban high-floor large-class bus manufactured by the Likinsky Bus Plant. From 2011 to 2014, it was assembled at the Golitsynsky Bus Plant.
Vehicles with the designation LiAZ-5250 are a copy of their predecessor, produced under the name GolAZ-5251.
Overview
In the last 20 years, LiAZ has shifted to the center of Russia, where buses run on city and suburban routes. In Siberia and the East, NefAZ dominates in this segment. And in the southern regions, passengers are transported by buses of the Volzhanin plant.
Such territorial division has its own reasons: each region supports its own brands. In the Moscow region, for example, “Mostransavto” is a consumer of the products of the Likinsky Automobile Plant, including the LiAZ-5250.
“Voyage”, which moved from Golitsyno in 2013, has remained virtually unchanged. The predecessor can be distinguished only by the emblems and some minor details, which are mainly related to the design (for example, door drives, quality of adhesive materials, updated transmission, etc.).
The bus is made in a single corporate style with details characteristic of the brand. It is equipped with miniature lensed Hella front optics, which meet the standards of the new era. The designers almost completely preserved the appearance of the suburban model.
In recent years, LiAZs have acquired higher-quality side glazing – double-glazed windows with vents, fan-type windshield wipers, as well as a driver’s window with electric heating. A noticeable innovation for connoisseurs of Likino Bus Plant buses was the introduction of a lighter plastic roof. Its steel counterpart weighed several times more.
All these innovations affected the 5250 model. When assembling it, adhesive technologies are increasingly used, which provide waterproofing and the necessary mobility of the joint.
The interior is quite spacious, and the passenger seats are located in a 2+2 composition, which is standard for such a layout. Each seat is equipped with seat belts, backrests with adjustable tilt, retractable armrests and folding tables in accordance with the rules of intercity transportation.
To monitor the road and passengers, a video recorder of the movement, CCTV cameras and rear-view cameras are installed in the interior and driver’s cabin, which display the image on the monitor and save it in the memory of the drive. These recordings have repeatedly helped drivers avoid false accusations of accidents and other incidents.
In addition, the car is equipped with GLONASS control systems and a digital tachograph. In the past, uncomfortable driver’s seats were installed on Voyage cars, which made the working day seem difficult. In the new versions, at the request of the key customer, comfortable seats with numerous adjustments were installed. This solved the problem.
The instrument panel, the informative display and ergonomic controls, including buttons for shifting gears of the automatic transmission, create additional comfort for the driver.
The Likinsky Plant has been cooperating with the Swedish manufacturer Scania for many years and purchases chassis for its buses from them. For example, the 5250 model is also based on an imported chassis.
The rear overhang of the Voyage bus is equipped with an in-line 5-cylinder Scania DC09 109 engine, which complies with the Euro-5 environmental class. The maximum torque reaches 1150 Nm at a rotation speed of 1000-1300 rpm.
In the event of an emergency fire situation, the serial fire alarm device with a sensor in the engine compartment will automatically notify the driver of the danger and begin extinguishing.
In Voyage buses, torque from the engine to the rear axle is transmitted through a 6-speed automatic transmission manufactured by ZF. It belongs to the Ecolife series and has a model 6AP-1200B.
This gearbox significantly facilitates the driver’s work and reduces the load on the transmission.
The air brake system is equipped with an electronic anti-lock braking system (EBS) and an anti-slip regulation system (ASR). In addition, the primary retarder of the automatic transmission, built into the braking system, provides high braking power even at low speeds.
Since 2022, the production of the bus has been temporarily suspended due to the cessation of supplies of components, in particular the Scania chassis.
