КАвЗ-4238 «Аврора»
The KAvZ-4238 “Aurora” is a medium-sized, high-floor, extended bus created in the mid-2000s at the Pavlovsk Bus Plant. It was developed on the basis of the PAZ-4230 bus. Since 2006, production of various modifications of this bus has been established at the Kurgan Bus Plant.
History
In the late 1990s, the Pavlovsk Bus Plant faced the task of expanding production and mastering the production of buses of various classes. During this period, a new medium-class bus was created – the PAZ-4230 Aurora. This model attracted the attention of the press and was awarded at exhibitions.
In 2000, PAZ began producing the PAZ-4230 bus. In the same year, PAZ became part of the RusPromAvto management company. In 2001, the Pavlovsk Automobile Plant began serial production of this bus.
In 2002, it was decided to transfer the production of the PAZ-4230 “Aurora” to the Kurgan Bus Plant. In 2003, serial production of the PAZ-4230 “Aurora” bus was organized at KAVZ.
The Pavlovsk Bus Plant decided to develop an extended modification of this bus, which was intended for operation on urban, suburban and intercity routes up to 500 km. The main difference between this bus and its predecessor was a longer wheelbase – 4840 mm instead of 3600 mm. This allowed increasing the number of passenger seats to 40. This bus was also equipped with a six-cylinder diesel engine Cummins B 180 20. In addition, depending on the modification, it was equipped with gearboxes KamAZ-141, ZF S6-85 or automatic transmission “Allison-2000”.
In 2006, the Kurgan Bus Plant began production of buses KAvZ-4238.
In 2010, a school bus based on KAvZ-4238 was developed and certified. Kurgan Bus Plant became the first manufacturer of school buses in Russia, focusing on GOST (technical government standards) R 51160-98 “Buses for transporting children. Technical requirements”.
During the implementation of the federal and regional programs “School Bus”, the enterprise delivered 5 thousand of these buses to educational institutions in 87 regions of the country.
In 2010, the Kurgan Bus Plant school bus was awarded the “100 Best Products of Russia” badge. That same year, the Aurora family of buses began to be equipped with Yaroslavl Motor Plant engines YaMZ-534 and YaMZ-5362 of the Euro-4 environmental class, with a capacity of 180 to 210 horsepower.
In 2012, the Kurgan Bus Plant developed the KAVZ-4238-72 bus, which runs on compressed natural gas. It is equipped with a YaMZ-53405, YaMZ-53625 or Cummins BGe 230 methane engine, corresponding to the Euro-5 environmental class. That same year, a prototype of this bus was manufactured and certified.
In 2009, the first restyling of this model was carried out: plastic overlays appeared on the front part and the headlights were changed. However, most buses were produced in pre-restyling form until 2021.
The second restyling took place in 2019. As a result, the front and rear masks of the bus, as well as the lighting equipment, were completely changed.
