Elektron

Электрон

“Electron” is a scooter developed in 1973 in the design bureau of the Vyatskiye Polyany Machine-Building Plant (VPMZ). The goal was to create a light, economical and affordable two-seater vehicle. The “Vyatka-150” model, produced since 1957, was taken as a basis.

Vyatka engineers, inspired by “Vespa“, created their own model, avoiding complete copying due to fears of claims from Italy. In 1957, “Vyatka-150” was released, and in 1964 its modification “Vyatka-150VP” appeared. It was distinguished by an extended base, a new body and a modernized front fork. The rear suspension was equipped with a chain drive instead of a direct connection of the engine to the wheel.

In 1973, the Vyatka-Polyansky plant presented “Vyatka-Elektron”, the successor of “Vyatka-150”. The body design changed dramatically: rounded shapes disappeared, the exterior became more modern and fast. The engine power increased to 7 HP, and the ignition system was completely updated. Instead of a contact system, a device for contactless spark supply was installed, which was a novelty at that time.
