Mercedes-Benz C-Class (Fifth Generation)

Mercedes-Benz C-Class (W206)

The Mercedes-Benz C-Class (W206) is the fifth generation of this popular model, launched in 2021. It replaced the previous W205 generation, which had been in production since 2014. The new C-Class is available in three body styles: saloon (W206), estate (S206) and long-wheelbase saloon (V206).

The car is built on the Mercedes MRA II modular platform, which is also used in the new S-Class (W223).

The smallest petrol engine in the range is the 1.5-litre M264. It is available in the C 180 (125 kW, 168 HP) and C 200 (150 kW, 201 HP) models. The C 300 model uses a 2.0-litre M254 with 190 kW and a turbocharger, which can briefly boost power by 26 kW for up to 30 seconds. It also features a 48-volt electric supercharger to assist at low revs.

Initially, Daimler offered two diesel models: the C 220d and the C 300d. Both are equipped with a 1,992 cc OM654 engine. In the C 220d, it produces 147 kW, and in the C 300d, 195 kW. Compared to the previous engine, the OM654 features a new crankshaft and a water-cooled turbocharger with variable geometry. In July 2021, the C 200d model was introduced, featuring a detuned engine producing 120 kW and 380 N·m of torque.

Daimler has unveiled the C 300e and C 300de plug-in hybrid models. Most C-Class models feature the 4Matic permanent all-wheel-drive system with a two-planetary differential. For non-AMG models, the torque split is 45/55, whilst for the AMG C43 it is 31/69. The AMG C63 models use the 4Matic+ system with an electronically controlled clutch, providing continuously variable torque transfer. Plug-in hybrid models have an electric range of up to 100 km.

From April 2022, AMG is introducing a new engine for the C 43 4MATIC: a 2.0-litre M139 with turbocharging and a 48-volt electric motor, delivering a combined output of 320 kW.

The C 63 S E-Performance features a 350 kW M139 four-cylinder engine, making it the most powerful production four-cylinder engine with a specific output of 235 HP per litre and 117 HP per cylinder.
