MAN TGE (Volkswagen Crafter)

The MAN TGE is a small van created by the Volkswagen Group based on the VW Crafter II (7C0), which is sold under the MAN brand. Like the Crafter, it is produced at the Września plant in Poland since April 2017.

MAN presented it at the IAA Commercial Vehicles 2016 in Hanover.

Differences from VW Crafter

The TGE differs from the Volkswagen Crafter II mainly in its external design. The MAN has a smaller radiator grille, and the tailgate has a MAN logo instead of the Volkswagen logo. The MAN logo is also present on the steering wheel.

Engine

The vehicle is equipped with 2.0-liter turbodiesels of the EA288 Nutz series with a common rail direct injection system. Four power levels are available: 75, 90 (available later), 103 and 130 kW. The horsepower output, as is customary in MAN marking, can be found in the model name. The engines are located at the front.

Most engines are equipped as standard with a six-speed manual transmission, which transmits torque to the front wheels. Some models are also available with an eight-speed automatic transmission with a torque converter.

Starting with an output of 90 kW (122 HP), there are versions with rear-wheel drive and all-wheel drive. In front-wheel drive and all-wheel drive versions, the engine is located transversely to the direction of travel, and in rear-wheel drive versions, it is longitudinal.

In March 2018, the all-electric MAN eTGE was presented, which is planned to be launched into series production in July of the same year. It can transport loads weighing up to 1,700 kg.

The maximum output of the synchronous motor is 100 kW, and the maximum torque is available across the entire speed range – 290 Nm. The maximum speed is limited to 90 km/h.
