Irisbus/Iveco Magelys is a coach designed for intercity, sightseeing and private travel (Grand-tourisme). From 2006 to 2020, it was produced and sold by Irisbus and then Iveco Bus at the Annonay, France, plant. Since 2013, Iveco Bus has placed its logo on the grille of this bus, which replaced the Iliade and Domino models. In 2016, the Magelys was awarded the title of “Bus of the Year”.

However, due to a constant decrease in production volumes, as well as problems with the quality of plastic in the cabin and the Iveco Cursor 10 engine, Iveco Bus decided to stop producing Magelys buses in 2020.

The name Magelys was chosen in honor of Ferdinand Magellan, the famous navigator and explorer of the 16th century.

History

It was produced and sold between 2007 and 2013 under the Irisbus brand (a subsidiary of the manufacturer Iveco), then from 2013 to 2020 under the Iveco Bus brand.

Under the Irisbus brand (2005-2013)

In 2007, Irisbus introduced the Magelys model. The range includes three variants: 12.2 meters, 12.8 meters and 13.8 meters long. It is possible to choose between two engines: Iveco Cursor 8 or Cursor 10.

Under the Iveco Bus brand (2013-2020)

On May 24, 2013, Iveco announced the change of the Irisbus brand to Iveco Bus. All models were renamed and modernized, with the exception of the Evadys. The interior of the Magelys was revised with higher quality materials. The engine was simplified: an Iveco Cursor 9 engine with a capacity of 400 HP was installed.

The transition to the Euro-6 environmental standard brought noticeable changes to the appearance of Iveco Bus buses. The radiator grille received a new design with the company logo and rectangular front lights, which became common for the entire model range that meets the Euro-6 standard.
