Kaiyi E5

Kaiyi E5

Kaiyi E5 (domestic market: Kaiyi Xuandu) is a sedan produced since 2021 by the Kaiyi sub-brand of the Chinese company Chery Automobile.

History

The Cowin Xuandu model, presented in July 2021, was the first model of the Cowin sub-brand (since 2022 – Kaiyi) of Chery Automobile.

To create this model, Chery Automobile took the design of the Chery Arrizo 7 (2013-2018) as a basis and made significant changes.

The engine and gearbox remained the same, but the rear suspension with a semi-independent beam was replaced with a fully independent multi-link design.

The exterior of the car retained the general proportions, the shape of the side windows and door openings, but the overall design was significantly redesigned. New lighting equipment and all external body panels (except the roof) were made specifically for this model. The interior has also been completely redesigned.

The car was designed by Louie Vermersch, who previously worked at the Italian studio Pininfarina. He also created the design of the Chery Tiggo.

In mid-2022, as part of the company’s rebranding from Cowin to Kaiyi, the car was accordingly renamed Kaiyi Xuandu.

In July 2023, the E5 model received a facelift: the front of the car was updated with a new radiator grille and bumper, while the rest of the elements remained unchanged.

Russia

Since January 2023, the Kaiyi E5 has been assembled at the Avtotor plant in Kaliningrad (Russia).

The car went on sale in March 2023 in the most prestigious Luxury and Luxury Plus trim levels. In June, a more affordable Comfort trim level was introduced, and in September, the Luxury Sport trim level, which differed from Luxury Plus only in the front bumper with red decorative elements, and the basic Standart trim level.
