Project 92-016

Feliks Dzerzhinsky (ship) in Moscow
“Valerian Kuybyshev” is a series of four-deck diesel-electric river motor ships, which were built at the shipyard in Komárno (Czechoslovakia). In the USSR (and later in Russia), these ships were the largest: their displacement was 3935 tons, and the length was 135.8 meters.
The “Valerian Kuibyshev” motor ships, also known as project 92-016, are called OL400 (osobna lod 400) in Slovakia, which translates as “passenger ship with a capacity of 400 people”. Several such ships were built between 1976 and 1983.
Passenger accommodation conditions
All cabins on this ship were of the “junior suite” class. This means that each cabin had a bathroom. However, in terms of comfort, they were inferior to the ships of the Dmitry Furmanov project, which were built in the GDR at the VEB Elbewerften Boizenburg/Roßlau shipyards.
They also could not compare with the four-deck river ships of the Q-056 project, which were manufactured in Austria at the Österreichische Schiffswerften AG Linz Korneuburg (ÖSWAG) shipyard. For example, the Anton Chekhov and Lev Tolstoy ships, built in 1978 and 1979 respectively, were the only ones of their kind, as they had a swimming pool on the upper deck.
Distribution
Between 1976 and 1983, the Volga Shipping Company received eight ships of this project. The ninth motor ship “Alexander Suvorov” was transferred to the Volga-Don Shipping Company, but after an accident that occurred in 1983 near Ulyanovsk and subsequent repairs, it also came under the jurisdiction of the Volga Shipping Company.
One of the motor ships of this series was renamed in honor of Sergei Kuchkin, who held the position of head of the Volga United River Shipping Company in 1958-1960.
Motor ships of the “Valerian Kuibyshev” type were and remain in demand on the Volga, Oka, Moskva, Neva rivers, as well as on the rivers and lakes of the Volga-Baltic Waterway. They carry out tourist transportation along the Moscow–St. Petersburg route and cruises along the Volga.
