Andorra la Vella, Andorra (Pyrenees) will be granted the status – Ibero-American Capital of Culture in 2016. This decision was unanimously taken on Friday, September 26, 2014 in the course of 16th plenary assembly of the Union of South American Nations.
This year the status was given to the capital of Costa-Rica — San-Jose, in 2015 Guatemala will become Latin American Capital of Culture.
The official statement on behalf of the Government of Andorra says: “It will be a great honor for Andorra to get the status of Latin American Capital of Culture. This will definitely help the Community of Latin American Nations to better know our city, our country, to share the experience and cultural heritage; it will favor the further development of tourism and economic relations”.
