The Zoological Museum of Moscow State University is one of the largest zoological museums in Russia. It’s located in the center of Moscow, Bolshaya Nikitskaya Street. The foundation’s official date is 1791, when the natural cabinet created at Moscow University was transformed into a natural science museum.
The modern museum fund consists of more than 10 million items, with an annual increase in the scientific collection of 25-30 thousand exhibits. The most extensive collections in the Museum are entomological (about 3 million exhibits), a collection of mammals (more than 200,000) and birds (157,000).
As of 2019, the exposition features about 10 thousand exhibits: two halls are reserved for the systematic part and one for the evolutionary-morphological part.
