On September 2 in Vallnord (Andorra) took place the opening ceremony of 11th World Championship of cycling Vuelta a España-2015

TOUR OF SPAIN - STAGE ELEVEN

On September 2 in Vallnord (one of skiing resorts of Andorra (Pyrenees)) took place the opening ceremony of 11th World Championship of cycling Vuelta a España-2015. The event brought together more than 300 sportsmen from 52 countries.

The head of the Government of AndorraAntoni Martí Petit, stated on the opening of the ceremony: “Our country is a country of sports. We hope that Andorra will become a permanent place for the competitions of such scale”.

There will be 9 lap finishes during this stage of Vuelta a España-2015 scheduled 9 finishes. Eleventh stage is considered to be the most complex Royal mountain stage. For the first time in the history of the Vuelta the whole stage will be fully traced through territory of Andorra. The total length of the Royal mountain stage from Andorra la Vella to Cortals d’Encamp makes 138 km. Racers must overcome 6 inclines: Collada de Beixalís (1795 m) – 1st category of complexity, Coll d’Ordino (1938 m) – 1st category, La Peguera (1821m) – 1st category, Collada de la Gallina (1910m) – highest category,  La Comella (1347m) – 2nd category and finish is on top of the 1st category Cortals d’Encamp (2010 m).

A total number of laps (stages) during 3 weeks of Spanish Grand Tour makes 44  mountain peaks. The total length of the route makes 3376.4 km.

“Vuelta a España” is held from August 22 to September 13.
