The Social Democratic Party of Andorra (Pyrenees) prepares the bill which will reduce number of years of residence in the country for obtaining nationality.
SDP introduced such a bill already twice (in 2010 and in 2012). It was declared by the first secretary of SDP David Rios, who also noted noted that “the bill will be submitted for consideration of the General Council in September of the current year”.
According to the new bill, the number of years for naturalization will be reduced from present 20 to 10 years. Besides, the bill also provides opportunity to put the different periods of living in Andorra not in a row as it is demanded by the modern legislation, but summing these periods.
According to David Rios, “time came to resolve this issue especially in connection with recommendations of the Council of Europe”. He considers that now there is a huge gap for the residents acquiring at first economic rights in the Principality and only in 20 years the right to take part in political life for what it is necessary to carry out serious correction”.
