The Director of the Department of Mobility, Jaume Bonell, and deputy director of the Police, Bruno Lasne, presented the special transit plan for winter 2019-2020. Among the main changes is the adaptation of the “snow colours” warning system. As such the green phase, which does not imply any disruptions, is removed.
The yellow phase of “snow on the road” makes obligatory the use of either winter tires or special equipment and a maximum speed of 60 km / h. The orange phase or “danger, ice on the road” is added, which reduces the maximum speed to 50 km / h, and implies mandatory use of chains for vehicles over 3,500 kg, even if they have winter tires.
The red phase or “road in very adverse conditions” is also modified, it forces the use of chains for all vehicles and a maximum speed of 30km / h. In this phase, freight transport of more than 19,000kg can not circulate. Finally, the black phase or “impassable road” forces road closure.
The meeting this morning also served to present the forecasted vehicle entries for the upcoming holidays. In this way, it is expected that for the Puríssima (6 to 8 of December) 32,000 vehicles will enter through the border with Span and 11,000 through France. For the Christmas season, from December 23 to January 6, an entrance of 159,000 vehicles is expected, 110,000 of which will reach the Principality through the Runer river border.
