The Mountain Forests Project, the leading entity in environmental volunteering in Catalonia, brought together 546 volunteers

The Mountain Forests Project, the leading entity in environmental volunteering in  (CataloniaSpainPyrenees), brought together 546 volunteers (among them, 112 teenagers) in this years summer campaign, which took place in the counties of Pallars Sobirà (Esterri de Cardós, Massís de l’Orri and Valls d’Àneu-Parc Natural de l’Alt Pirineu) and Ripollès (Parc Natural de les Capçaleres del Ter and El Freser).

Over 22 weeks, under the guidance of  environmental professionals, the participants carried out about 28,000 hours of volunteer work in forest recovery and care. The stimulation of the rural circular economy, fire prevention and the protection of the habitat of local species were the three main areas of activity.

The intervention in 50,000 m2 of land generated more than 100 tones of wood with the PEFC seal of sustainable forest management. Five kilometers of traditional livestock paths and 15,000 m2 of pasture were also recovered, and several sections of dry stone walls were restored.
