The Church of Simeon and Anna in St. Petersburg

The Church of Simeon and Anna (the full name is the Church of the Holy Righteous Simeon the God-Receiver and Anna the Prophetess) is a parish Orthodox church in St. Petersburg, on the corner of Belinsky and Mokhovaya streets, an architectural monument, one of the oldest churches in the city.

It belongs to the Central Deanery of the St. Petersburg Diocese of the Russian Orthodox Church. Former capitular church of the Order of St. Anne.

The Church of Simeon and Anna near the banks of the Fontanka River was the namesake church of Empress Anna Ioannovna. The first wooden church on this site was founded in 1712 and consecrated in 1714 in honor of the birth of Anna, the daughter of Peter the Great.

Above the southern portal of the church there is a cartouche with the personal coat of arms of Empress Anna Ioannovna. It was built in the period from 1728 to 1734 according to the project of the architect Mikhail Zemtsov.

From the name of the church come the former names of Belinsky Street and Belinsky Bridge – Simeonovskie.
