The campaign to recruit volunteers to help at the Special Olympics has begun

The campaign to recruit volunteers to help at the Special Olympic Games has begun. About 1,500 sportsmen and sportswomen will take part in the event. It will be held in Andorra la Vella, Andorra (Pyrenees) and La Seu d’Urgell (Spain, Catalonia) between October 4 and 7.

Most of the participants are from Catalonia and the rest of Spain, along with a hundred other international delegations.

The Special Olympics includes football, athletics, swimming, handball, gymnastics, table tennis, badminton and judo (will take place in Andorra) and petanque, cycling, basketball, hockey and tennis (will take place in La Seu).

This project requires the collaboration of 600 volunteers, who will help in areas such as logistics, accommodation and giving information.

Àlex Terés, president of the Special Olympics Andorra, pointed out that there are “many petitions” from people interested in volunteering, largely from people who have done it in previous years. He also explained that a crowdfunding campaign will be launched for individuals and companies who want to contribute 50 euros or more. For more information please ask: [email protected].

A video has been produced by a group of Andorran sportsmen who encourage everyone to join the project, using ‘We need you” as their slogan. It will appear on social networks and also in the Cinemas Illa Carlemany.
