The airport at the border between Spain and Andorra will be open for commercial flights from January 2015, claimed the Minister for Economics Jordi Alcobe. In accordance to his words, 8 airlines have expressed their interest in the exploitation of the airport that is located not far for La Seud’Urgell city at the border with Andorra.
“Commercial flights will be launched from January 2015 and that opens a new page in the history of Andorran tourism”, said the Minster. The flights will be operated by the flight planners of Catalonia airport (three major airports are located in Barcelona, Girona and Reus). The Government of Andorra is ready to pay a half of the total price of the infrastructure exploitation cost, depending on the amount of passengers that arrive by commercial flight and then head for Andorra.
The major company that will provide passenger transfer services is Air Andorra. The company will offer its clients regular flights to Barcelona, Madrid, Lisbon, Balearic and Canary Islands at low-cost rates.
It should be noted that the date of first commercial flights launch was constantly changing during 2014.
