Teatre Lliure (Barcelona)

The Teatre Lliure de Barcelona (CataloniaSpain) is a center founded cooperatively in 1976 by a group of artists promoted by Fabià Puigserver i Plana.

It is currently directed by stage director Juan Carlos Martel Bayod and is part of the European network of public theaters mitos.

It is set up as a private foundation, with participation by the Barcelona City Council, the Barcelona Provincial Council, the Generalitat de Catalunya and the Ministry of Culture and Sport of Spain.

The theater has two locations: one in Montjuïc hill, which includes the large-format Sala Fabià Puigserver (up to 720 spectators) and the small-format Espai Lliure (up to 172 spectators), and another in Gràcia, with a medium format (up to 250 viewers).

The current artistic program is organized in four axes: scene, culture, education and digital world. In this sense, the Free Space has been designed to host the educational program and the theater residency program. As for the digital world, among other initiatives, the Free Archive has been created, a digital platform that collects the artistic heritage collected by the theater in its 46 years of history with 67,500 objects and that has been possible with the concurrence of FEDER funds.
