Taganka Theatre

Taganka Theatre (Taganka) is a drama theater on Zemlyanoy Val Street (Garden Ring) in Moscow, Taganskaya square.

Since 2015, the director of the theater in Taganka is Irina Apeksimova. It was founded in 1946 as the Moscow Theatre of Drama and Comedy and transformed into the Taganka Theatre in 1964 by Yuri Lyubimov. The repertoire includes past years’ production and modern invited directors’ work.

In the 1870s, several buildings of the 18th century were combined into one building on Zemlyanoy Val. In 1911, the Vulkan silent film theater was completed, designed by architect Gustav Gelrich. Until 1946, the premises were occupied by a branch of the Maly Theater and the Safonov Theater.
