Plateau de Beille with 32 km of cross-country skiing

The Beille plateau is a Pyrenean mountain range located in the Ariège department. It lies to the south of the Ariège valley between Tarascon and Ax-les-Thermes above the villages of Cabannes, Albiès and Lassur. Road access to the plateau (D 522) starts from Les Cabannes.

The resort is partnered with its neighbors Ax 3 Domaines, Le ChioulaAscou-Pailhères

For a long time, this plateau was only a breeding cattle ground. It has recently become the site of an important winter sports resort in the Pyrenees, mainly dedicated to cross-country skiing, with slopes between 1800 and 2000 m altitude. In addition, the Beille plateau is a crossing point for the GR 10 hiking trail that crosses the Pyrenees from east to west (the great hiking trail 10 or GR 10 is a French hiking trail that crosses the chain of Pyrenees, connecting the Mediterranean Sea to the Atlantic Ocean).

Finally, since 1998, the ascent from Les Cabannes to the plateau regularly constitutes the final ascent of a stage of the Tour de France. The Plateau de Beille has the particularity that all those who won the stage at its summit have subsequently won the Tour in Paris, except from 2011.

It is said that joining Beille is equivalent to reaching Scandinavia.

Between Toulouse and Foix, oak dominates. Then the beech appears above Tarascon.

It is only when we arrive in Beille that we discover the birch, the hooked pine, the callum and the rhododendron. The succession of these plants is exactly the same when crossing Europe from south to north! Likewise, the ptarmigan or white partridge found in Finestre, south of the Beille plateau, have very close “cousins” in Lapland, in the Arctic Circle!

The Nordic area of Beille consists of 14 ski slopes totaling 32 kilometers of regularly marked and groomed slopes on which you can indulge in the joys of Nordic skiing in all its forms.
