JAZZ NIGHTS UNDER THE PERGOLA: with LUCA SESTAK & JOHANNES NIKLAS. Thursday, 10th August from 21h – 23h at the Pergola, Park Hotel, Andorra la Vella. (Advance reservation essential at 877 779) You can savour the 5 star hotel’s menu and wines in privileged surroundings whilst enjoying great pianists from the world of Jazz. Luca Sestak uploaded his first piano videos on YouTube at age 11. Ten years and 16 million visits later things have changed considerably. With drummer JOHANNES NIKLAS, 21-year-old LUCA, winner of the German Boogie-Woogie Award dominates blues, boogie-woogie, jazz, funk and pop. He combines a perfect repertoire of vertiginously fast boogies, wonderful ballads plus pieces of blues.
18th International organ Festival 2017 Saturday, 12th August at 21.30 at the Church of Sant Esteve, Andorra la Vella. (Free) A Mid-Summer Night’s Dream with Olivier Vernet & Cédric Meckler on the organ. Pieces by Johann Sebastian and Johann Christian Bach and Felix Mendelssohn all for four-handed organ. The concert begins with one of the most emblematic works for organ, la Tocata i fuga by the older Bach. The other higlight of the evening is Felix Mendelssohn’s fabulous A Mid-Summer Night’s Dream.

7th Festival of Early Music from the Pyrenees (FEMAP) plus a guided tour of the old and new parliament buildings: CASA DE LA VALL and CONSELL GENERAL. Sunday, 13th August starting at 18h with the guided tour followed, at 20h, by the concert Joyée des Élysées with the Fantasiant. The Fantasiant consist of Anna Casademunt and Marc de la Linde on viola de gamba (which originated in Spain in the mid-15th century) and Igor Davidovicks on the theorbo (which originated in Italy in the late 16th century. Part of the lute family, the theorbo has an extended neck with a second pegbox allowing for a greater range of sound.) The programme includes works by Marais, Sainte Colombe.

SUMMER NIGHTS AT THE MUSEUMS

THIS IS POP ART, a night tour. Wednesday, 9th August at 20.30 and 22h at the CAEE Centre d’Art Escaldes-Engordany. Visit to the exhibition dedicated to Pop Art, an artistic movement that shook contemporary art from the 50’s of the twentieth century. Pop Art used images from advertising, used the technique of screen printing and turned cinema stars and everyday objects into art. ‘THIS IS POP ART!’ brings together works by the most prominent artists of American pop art: Keith Haring, Robert Indiana, Roy Liechtenstein, Robert Rauchenberg and Andy Warhol.

COMBINED CULTURAL EVENT: MUSEUM/ART EXHIBITION/CONCERT. Thursday, 10th August starting at 21h at the Museum of Tobacco, Sant Julià de Lòria. (Reservation essential at 741 545). 21h – 21.30h: Multimedia guided visit to the Tobacco Museum. 21h – 22.30h free visit to the current art exhibition Gaston-Louis Roux and the avant-gardE. 22.30h in the Museum Garden, the concert The music of the avant-gardE with the string quartet Ensemble ad Libitum. Through music we immerse ourselves in a movement which, while having its main expression in the field of painting, also unequivocally influenced the other artistic disciplines of the era. A society in constant evolution and a period marked by war and profound social transformation left a deep impression on the field of art.
